-Artistically Depicting The Dynamic Nature Of Modern Competitive Fencing!

Artist Statement- "Why I Paint Fencers!"

I'm a competitive fencer and I think fencers ROCK!

All fencers are artists. We “create” on the strip (piste) with our strategy, technique and style. The same is true for the painter and her canvas. So its only natural for such a creative sport to be depicted in the fine art arena. I make art that depicts fencers of all three weapons (foil, epee, and sabre).

My artistic goal is to capture in paint those moments that portray why we fence and love this sport.  The fact that I’m a competitive fencer gives me a unique insight when depicting the moment, action and even the anticipation of a touch.  I use color, texture, design and a lot of energy to create my fencing paintings. I believe that the anticipation and reaction of a touch are just as worthy of depiction as the dramatic primes and fleches.  Other paintings are more about the individual “style” of a fencer; his or her stance or the unique way their body looks doing a certain move.

All the paintings exhibited in The Sword & Brush Gallery  depict the modern fencing scene in all its glory. The Sword & Brush Gallery is to be a place where spectators can come and see on canvas and paper that energy and excitement we fencers “feel” on the strip.
